Gracefully moving as a human animal from a primal source. Engaging with innate cellular wisdom. Deepening our connection to Nature and our authentic selves. Surrendering to musical and natural rhythms. Honoring the Mystery that underlies the material world.
Inspired by ritual, magic, and transformation, I create dance performance, dance media, dance/movement workshops and participatory rituals that serve as antidotes to a toxic mainstream culture and personal histories of disembodiment.
With a practice grounded in authentic spontaneity, integrating the work of Erick Hawkins, Isadora Duncan, Emilie Conrad, Joan Skinner, Gabrielle Roth, and others, my work encourages viewers to drop artificial movement patterns and listen to their bodies, to discover or rediscover embodied ways of engaging with authenticity and the present moment, primal impulses toward movement and ease of movement, and individual (rather than conformist) movement aesthetics. Perhaps by integrating our most ancient medium—our bodies—with the recent medium of digital video, we can learn to live creatively, sustainably, and genuinely in the digital age.
